Step Five – Categorise each worry into “can influence” or “can’t influence”

Please read through the step below or watch the video in full. When you’re done, click “Mark Step Complete” and then click “Next Step”

Now consider each individual worry on its own page carefully. Put a “Y” in the influence column on your master list if you can stop or reduce the chances of the worry actually happening, or to what extent it will happen.

If you can’t influence or affect the outcome put an “N” in the column.

An example of being able to influence the outcome would be:

“I’m worried about falling off a cliff.”

This would get a “Y” in the influence column, as you can affect the chances of you falling off a cliff easily by not walking too close to the edge. This is an influenceable worry and you would therefore put a big fat “Y” in the influence column for it.

Another influenceable worry would be that of your car breaking down. You can reduce the chances of this by having it serviced regularly and maybe carrying some spare oil and engine coolant in your boot. Simples.

Examples of uninfluenceable worry, on the other hand, could be the worry of a recession coming or (an extreme example) a meteor striking earth. There is not anything you as an individual could do to stop either of these from happening.
